OUR INNOVATIVE DEGREE PROGRAMS SPOTLIGHT
Bachelor of Educational Studies
Wherever education happens outside the classroom, BES graduates will be prepared to be skilled and confident leaders and innovators. Coursework builds around a student’s interests with a unique mix of education, management and content, including significant courses from across the University from Arts & Sciences, Social Work and Business.
Elementary Mathematics Specialist Certification
This program is designed to prepare students for this certification by offering in-depth study of grade appropriate mathematics as specified in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, supervised application of pedagogy and leadership training.

Please join us for an assortment of workshops covering various college preparation and college readiness material for high school students, parents, and community members.

Upcoming 2021 College Prep Talks

Cultivating Self-Compassion
Wellness Wednesday - February 3  (3:00 pm—4:00 pm)

Whoever said we were supposed to be perfect?! We all make mistakes, but we can be very hard on ourselves when we do. In this workshop, we will learn how to practice being kind and understanding toward ourselves when we make mistakes or fail.   

Maintaining Healthy Relationships
Wednesday, February 10 (3:00 pm—4:00 pm)

Relationships are hard! Yet, we cannot avoid them. In this workshop, students will take time to compare healthy versus unhealthy relationships. Students will consider the traits of these relationships, and how they can incorporate this knowledge into their personal lives.

Critical Thinking Skills
Wednesday, February 17 (3:00 pm—4:00 pm)

In this workshop, students explore critical thinking. Students learn how to implement critical thinking skills into their classwork and evaluate the value of this essential skill.

Building a Resume
Wednesday, February 24 (3:00 pm—4:00 pm)

Let’s work to create a resume template that you can update as you gain new experiences. In this workshop, the moderator will share fresh perspectives and action verbs to take your resume to a whole new level.

Balancing Obligations
Wellness Wednesday - March 3 (3:00 pm—4:00 pm)

In this lesson, students consider their obligations and how they manage their time around their commitments. Students discover what “work-life balance” is and plan a work-life balance tailored to their needs.

Awesome Advice for Athletes
Wednesday, March 10 (3:00 pm—4:00 pm)

If you’re interested in playing sports in college, this workshop is for you!  You will hear from an athletic director and recruiter about what it takes to compete on a collegiate level and how to secure an athletic scholarship.

What does it mean to be a First-Generation college student?
Wednesday, March 17 (3:00 pm—4:00 pm)

Come learn about what it means to be a First-Generation student. We’ll discuss what colleges and universities around the country are doing to support and celebrate First-Generation student success.

Advocacy for All
Wednesday, March 24 (3:00 pm—4:00 pm)

Passionate about topics like homelessness, educational inequality, immigration, poverty, etc.? Join this workshop if you want to learn how you can actively get involved now as a high school student and address topics most important to you.

Making your Final College Decision
Wednesday, March 31 (3:00 pm—4:00 pm)

You’ve been accepted to several colleges/universities! Now it’s time to determine which school is right for you. Join this workshop to discuss how to consider your options and make your final decision.

Understanding Your Financial Aid Award Letters
Wednesday, April 7 (3:00 pm—4:00 pm)

You’ve received multiple financial aid award letters, now what? In this workshop, students will learn how to interpret those award letters and determine which school has the BEST financial aid package!

Understanding Strength in Diversity
Wednesday, April 14 (3:00 pm—4:00 pm)

In this lesson, students practice social awareness by appreciating diversity. This lesson provides students with explicit instruction of social and emotional learning skills and authentic group practice opportunities.

The UMSL Preview Day on February 15 is an opportunity for prospective students to learn more about ALL undergraduate programs, not just the College of Education.  I’ve listed below the different colleges that will be facilitating presentations and discussions.  Please feel free to distribute this information to any of your students at any grade level in order to learn more about our undergraduate college degree programs.  Preview Day will be held on Monday February 15 (Presidents Day).  By utilizing a day when students are not in school, we won’t conflict with any academics and are better able to provide students the time available to learn more about UMSL.

UMSL DAY is this Saturday!!!!

 

At the University of Missouri St. Louis, we are committed to providing opportunities for our high school students to continue their education and find a career path that is right for them.  Our “UMSL DAY” is a virtual event, and provides a perfect opportunity for these incoming freshmen to learn more about our great University, and the College of Education. 

UMSL DAY for incoming freshmen is this Saturday!  However, there is still plenty of time to register and take part. The day is short, with available virtual only sessions from 10:00am to 1:00pm.  The schedule of the event is as follows:

  • 10:00AM-10:50:  Academic Breakdown Session – Admissions and Financial Aid
  • 11:00 AM-11:30:  College of Education – Bachelor of Science in Education
  • 11:35-12:05:  College of Education – Bachelor of Educational Studies and Bachelor of Science in Sports Management
  • 12:15-1:00pm:  Optional Breakout Sessions

I have attached a flyer that you can use to help promote this event.  Please feel free to post/distribute any way you feel appropriate.  Please use this link for more information and to register for this great event.

I am an alum from Fort Zumwalt East (Class of 2016) and Alumna of UMSL (Class of 2020) where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Politcal Science and Pierre Laclede Honors College Certificate. While at UMSL, I was involved in Student Government Association, Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, and the student led newspaper,The Current. In my free time I love to cook, read, and be politically involved!
