OHS Families

It has been another great week here at OHS. While I can hardly believe we are finishing up the first quarter, we are!  We know that each of you has been checking in with your student(s) to ensure they are finalizing all requirements as we prepare for parent/teacher conferences.

As we progress through the year, I am eager to share with you some of the great experiences happening for our students.  For the entire month of October, I will be featuring our OHS Girls in Stem Initiatives.

This week’s feature comes from Physics and Aerospace Engineering teacher, Ms. Kristin Pierce, and her students who participated in the Girls in Aviation Day at Saint Louis University’s Parks College on Friday.  Our OHS students spent time speaking with flight instructors on the requirements, intricacies, and joys of aviation and flight.  The girls were also able to visit with local aviation groups and potential employers like American Airlines and the Air Force.  Additionally, our girls were able to take first hand tours of the school’s planes, as well as try their hand in flying in the school’s flight simulators. Please click these links OHS Girls in Aviation 1.jpg  OHS Girls in Aviation 2.jpg and OHS Girls in Aviation 3.jpg  to enjoy photos of our OHS “Girls-In-Aviation”!

The next OHS Girls in Stem Initiative will be The American Heart Association “Go Red Goes STEM” Event.  This opportunity is a full day of STEM that will allow our girls to experience workshops, hands-on training, mentoring and job shadowing of some of the top women in STEM fields in the St. Louis area.  The event is co-sponsored by the Danforth Foundation, Centene, Peabody, and RGA.  Please visit Go Red Stem Day Parent Pack.docx for more information and have your daughter see Ms. Sunkett by Wednesday, October 9, 2019 if interested.

We hope that you join us on October 8, 2019 from 7:00 – 8:00 for our OHS LISTENS: Anti-vape workshop.
