Speech and Debate

Welcome to Oakville's Speech and Debate Team webpage!

The Speech and Debate Team has a long history of competing against schools from across Missouri.  Practices begin in August and competition runs from October through March.

We are an interscholastic, extra-curricular activity requiring time after school and on weekends.  Through practices and competitions we improve critical and analytical thinking, reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.

High school forensics (speech and debate) in Missouri offers four styles of debate and over 14 styles of speech competition.

In order to compete a student must sign up in advance for a tournament and attend at least one practice per week and show the coaches (Ms. Mills, Ms. Williams) the student is prepared for competition.  Of course, a student can come to every practice.  We may have all the public forum debaters working in one room, all the interpreters in another, all the congress kids researching and writing in the library.  At some point the student will perform or debate in front of one of the coaches.

Interested in joining the team?  Talk to the coaches; Ms. Mills or Ms. Williams.
