Westminster College

As the coordinator of the Dual Degree Engineering program at Westminster College, I am delighted to share with you that in Spring 2021, we are offering a one-credit hour, online engineering course EGR 100 (Introduction to AutoCAD).

We understand that students typically have already planned out their schedules for this academic year, but we want to get the word out in the event that someone made last-minute adjustments to their spring courses.

AutoCAD is a computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting software program developed by AutoDesk. It is widely used by architects, engineers, graphic designers, and other professionals. AutoCAD skills are highly desirable for internships and jobs in many engineering firms.

This course introduces the fundamentals of creating and annotating CAD drawings in, for example, construction drafting and manufacturing industries. Such skills are developed through hands-on projects with step-by-step instructions. Customized contents will be delivered by Professor M. Hortman who is an AutoDesk-authorized trainer. In addition, this course provides preparation towards acquiring the professional AutoCAD certificate.

There are no pre-requisites for this course, and the educational version of the software AutoCAD is freely available. Westminster College offers the dual enrollment option, which enables high school students to take Westminster courses for college credit at a substantially reduced tuition rate. In particular, the fee for this course is $100 a person. Please find at the end of this letter an excerpt from Westminster Catalog concerning Dual Enrollment.

We thought this course would benefit high school juniors or seniors who are interested in engineering and design by giving them a head start in this profession.

We are excited to present this opportunity to your school and would appreciate it if you could help us by letting your students know of this course. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions and/or need any further information.

Sincerely,

Peng Yu

In response to some of the new challenges, Westminster College has made the decision to change their admissions policy and move to test-optional..

We will be able to make an admissions and/or merit scholarship decision for students with only a transcript credential. Students are still encouraged to submit ACT/SAT test scores (if applicable) to potentially impact merit scholarship eligibility in a positive way.
